The Eddystone Trust is looking for Bank Staff and Sessional Workers to join our team and support our community sexual health services across Devon and Plymouth.
We’re a small, supportive charity working across the South West of England to challenge the stigma, discrimination and misinformation associated with HIV and sexual health. Our work helps people make informed choices, access the right services and take greater control of their sexual health and wellbeing.
This is a flexible role that could suit someone who enjoys meeting people, listening without judgement and working with a wide range of communities. You don't need to be a sexual health expert – full training, induction and ongoing support will be provided.
What would you be doing?
The role is varied, and your work will depend on the needs of our services and the sessions you are available to support.
You could be involved in:
- Supporting sexual health outreach activities in community settings.
- Engaging with people who experience health inequalities or are at greater risk of poor sexual health.
- Supporting HIV and STI prevention activities, including community testing and behaviour-change interventions.
- Sharing information about HIV, STIs, condoms, PEP, PrEP, U=U and testing options.
- Helping to deliver workshops, information sessions and campaigns.
- Engaging with communities face to face and through digital channels.
- Signposting people to appropriate health, wellbeing and support services.
- Building positive relationships with community organisations and partner agencies.
- Completing relevant administration and maintaining accurate records.
A big part of the role is simply being someone people feel comfortable talking to. Our outreach work often creates opportunities for wider conversations about sexual health, relationships, wellbeing and accessing support.
About you
We’re looking for people with a positive and non-judgemental attitude towards HIV and sexual health who are comfortable working with people from different backgrounds.
You’ll need to be:
- Personable, empathetic and a good listener.
- A clear and respectful communicator.
- Reliable, flexible and able to work independently.
- Organised and able to manage your time effectively.
- Comfortable using standard computer software, including Microsoft Office.
- Able to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Willing to undertake relevant training.
Experience of working with marginalised communities, people with multiple or complex needs, or people affected by health inequalities would be useful. We’d also welcome experience in outreach, community engagement, workshops, training or information sessions.
Because our work takes place across Devon and Plymouth, a driving licence and access to a vehicle are desirable, particularly when working in locations that aren't well served by public transport.
