Monkeypox advice from The Eddystone Trust

There have been newsstories and headlines relating to recent diagnosis of Monkeypox cases in the UK. Whereas this can feel alarming, the number of cases are small and the UK Health Security Agency advise that the infection does not spread easily and the risk to the UK population remains low.

The infection is acquired through close contact with someone who has the virus. It is not a sexual infection but can be acquired through close contact with a sexual partner.

Preventative measures you can take include:

• Do not share bedding or towels with people who are unwell and may have monkeypox
• Do not have close contact with people who are unwell or have symptoms of monkeypox
• You should wash your hands with soap and water regularly or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser as you may have come into contact with skin lesions or secretions which might have ended up on your hands
